Daniel Auner has been internationally active as a violinist since his youth and is rooted in the musical tradition of his native Vienna. The “master violinist” (Die Presse), winner of the KlassikPreis Österreich and the Eugène Ysaÿe Competition, has performed with orchestras including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, under conductors such as Andrés Orozco-Estrada and Marta Gardolinska. The Strad has described his playing as “technically impeccable”.

Work on sources shapes his playing: his complete recording of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas grew out of a study of Baroque affect theory. He has premiered several violin concertos, among them works by Kurt Schwertsik and Ruben Zahra, and is preparing the first performance of the 1942 violin concerto by his great-great-aunt Mary Dickenson-Auner.

He is founder and leader of the Auner Quartett and violinist of the Vienna Mozart Trio. As a conductor he directs the Mödling Symphony Orchestra. He plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, Milan 1752, from the collection of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank.
